In this 3D2N San Francisco itinerary, we’ll take you on a full-on adventure that does not just highlight the city’s most iconic landmarks but also gives you a glimpse of the city’s local culture. 

 

Where to Stay on Labor Day Weekend in San Francisco

Day 1, September 2

It’s a little bit pricey, and there’s always a line, especially on the weekends, but it’s worth it. Plus, the most delicious brunches in SF almost always have a line anyway. 

 

Walk around Golden Gate Park

Burn off the calories from brunch and take a leisurely stroll around Golden Gate Park, one of the city’s most beloved outdoor spaces. Spanning over 1,000 acres, this urban oasis offers a variety of attractions, including stunning gardens, museums, and even a bison paddock. The Botanical Garden is a must-visit. It’s a magical place with such a rich diversity of plants from around the world. Don’t miss the Conservatory of Flowers as well, an iconic Victorian greenhouse that showcases exotic blooms and rare botanical specimens. 

 

Afternoon Tea at Japanese Tea Garden

There’s no shortage of flowers and gardens at Golden Gate Park. So, after your afternoon of exploration, it’s tea time at the Japanese Tea Garden, located within Golden Gate Park, too. Step into a tranquil oasis of carefully manicured gardens, traditional pagodas, and peaceful koi ponds and enjoy a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. 

 

Sunset at Sutro Baths

As the day draws to a close, make your way to the picturesque ruins of Sutro Baths, situated along the rugged coast of Land’s End. Once a grand swimming complex, these historic ruins offer a captivating glimpse into the city’s past. As you explore the hauntingly beautiful remains, be sure to take in the stunning sunset views over the Pacific Ocean. 

 

A Chorus Line at SF Playhouse or Live Music at The Chapel

If you still have energy, cap off your evening with a touch of culture and entertainment. We have two options for you: catch the acclaimed production of “A Chorus Line” at the SF Playhouse or head over to The Chapel at Mission District, a renowned music venue in SF showcasing an eclectic lineup of artists from various genres. 

 

Day 2, September 3 

 

Breakfast at Golden Gate Hotel

Fuel up before the second day’s adventures, with our complimentary breakfast. Enjoy a delicious spread of freshly baked goods (our blueberry muffins are the best!) and reputedly the city’s strongest coffee and brewed tea. Our breakfast is served in our downstairs Parlor where you can socialize with our other guests and hang out with our resident cat, Skittles! 

 

A morning at Alcatraz

 

No visit to San Francisco is complete without a trip to the legendary Alcatraz Island. Catch a ferry from Pier 33 and embark on a journey to the infamous former federal prison that once housed some of America’s most notorious criminals. Explore the cell blocks, listen to audio tours narrated by former inmates and prison guards, and gain insight into the daily lives of those who were incarcerated here. Alcatraz offers such a unique and weird yet very interesting experience. Plus, the views of the city skyline and the Golden Gate Bridge from the island will take your breath away.

 

Lunch at Cordon Bleu Vietnamese Restaurant

We’ll let you in a little secret: Cordon Bleu Vietnamese Restaurant. The name sounds very assuming, but it has all the right to do so. The hole-in-the-wall restaurant itself is very unassuming, though. The food is incredible, the portions are big, and the prices are very reasonable. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to eat great food in SF. 

 

Get croissants at Arsicault 

This French Bakery sure lives up to the hype. The line is long at Arsicault, but it moves quickly, and the croissants are out of this world. Get the kouign amann, too! 

 

Sunset bike along the Embarcadero

As the day winds down, rent a bike and go on a scenic ride along the Embarcadero. Pedal along the waterfront, taking in the gorgeous views of the San Francisco Bay as the sun sets. Pass by iconic landmarks such as the Ferry Building and the Bay Bridge, enjoying the cool breeze, the vibrant energy of the city. 

 

Enjoy panoramic city views of SF at Top of the Mark

Finish off your second day in San Francisco with a visit to Top of the Mark, a rooftop lounge located at the top of the historic InterContinental Mark Hopkins Hotel. Sip on a handcrafted cocktail or a glass of fine wine as you admire the glittering city lights below from the 19th floor. 

 

Day 3, September 4

 

Hike through Muir Woods

 

Just a short distance from the city, this enchanting forest is home to towering coastal redwoods, some of the oldest and tallest living organisms on Earth. Lose yourself in the tranquility of the towering redwoods and reconnect with nature as you wander through the enchanting forest. 

 

Get mission burritos and watch the free Labor Day “Golden Gate Park Band” Symphony Concert in the Park (2023)

After your hiking adventure, treat yourself to a taste of San Francisco’s famous Mission-style burritos. Head to one of the local taquerias in the Mission District and indulge in a hearty and flavorful meal wrapped in a warm tortilla.
